ABOUT MLD THERAPY

MLD effectively treats chronic and acute swelling

MLD (manual lymphatic drainage) therapy, also known as lymphatic massage, is considered the gold standard in the management and treatment of chronic swelling

conditions including lymphedema and lipedema. It's an effective therapeutic approach for acute swelling concerns from injury and surgery too.

Why do arms and legs swell?

Your swelling relief is at hand

When your lymphatic system is blocked or damaged you experience swelling. MLD therapy uses hands-on techniques which are light, repetitive and soothing. This encourages lymph movement around damaged areas to ease pain and swelling. Lymphatic massage is provided on a comfortable treatment bed, in a calming, quiet space. In some cases, compression wrapping is paired with MLD therapy to treat the swelling.

Why get MLD?

Is MLD like 'regular massage'?

Although the word massage is used, lymphatic massage therapy and conventional massage are different -- with different health goals.

The goal of lymphatic therapy is to move lymph and reduce inflammation and swelling. MLD techniques are unique, using notably less pressure than other physical therapies. MLD therapists gain specific training and are certified to provide manual lymphatic drainage therapy and combined decongestive therapy.  The MLD Clinic  has specialized in MLD therapy since 2006.
